Meet the Artisan: Ellen Chingeye

Ellen Chingeye
Creator of Artisanal Zimbabwe Jewelry

Ellen is a young artist and entrepreneur from Harare, Zimbabwe. She grew up in a diverse and multicultural community among different people, traditions,  and  teachings

While attending a junior youth training program in 2018, she worked on a project that inspired her to “know your talents and learn how to use them”.  As part of this exercise, Ellen worked on a sewing craft project that required her to source materials. She  found her way to the market place in the outskirts of Harare, where she discovered the artisan community and connected with her love of art and design.

Ellen holds a Diploma in Communications and Tourism but lost her job last year due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. This event led her to rely on her talent in art and design. With artistic forms capturing her design attention, she launched her jewelry business and began creating earrings, necklaces, and bracelets.

Her handmade pieces combine creative flair showcasing the harmony between color, pattern, and texture. With locally sourced materials from Zimbabwe, she crafts unique accessories with simple materials including string, beads, fabric, brass, and rope, to name a few.

In addition to being a talented artisan, Ellen is also committed to helping her community. She aspires to further her education in Community Development so she can lead community literacy programs.

What she loves about collaborating with ShopatMAP is that her work not only helps support her livelihood but also that the sales of her designs will contribute to the well-being of society.

Ellen has aspirations to grow her business so that she can employ other individuals and positively impact their lives.
